Guardrails are a product decision, not a safety checkbox

The best guardrails don’t just block bad outputs — they encode how your business wants an agent to behave when it’s unsure.

Guardrails are a product decision, not a safety checkbox

Blocking is the easy part

Every team starts with the obvious guardrails: redact PII, refuse jailbreaks, never promise a refund you can’t honor. Those matter. But the guardrails that move business metrics are the ones that decide what an agent should do when it isn’t sure.

Should it ask a clarifying question, hand off to a human, or proceed with a conservative default? That’s not a safety question. It’s a product question, and it deserves the same care as any other part of the experience.

Pause, don’t just fail

Sable guardrails can pause a run mid-flight and route it to a reviewer with the full trace attached. Customers wait seconds instead of getting a wrong answer, and your team gets a labeled example for the next eval run.
